The Your Music Magazine Band Olympicks is proving to be the ultimate contest for local/unsigned bands based in Northern California. Throughout the year Your Music Magazine, in cooperation with industry judges, online polls, live audience participation, and reader’s feedback will evaluate over one hundred up and coming Norcal bands in one of five different community events: San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, and Monterey. A series of “Live Performance” preliminary events will determine the top six bands and editor’s choice for each area to move onto the Final Event. Where all seven bands will perform for your audience vote that will determine the winner of over $5,000 in cash and prizes. Only the top three winners will be awarded a gold, silver, and bronze ranking, and split the cash and prizes.
YOUR MUSIC OLYMPICKS “Live Performance” Event
The Your Music Magazine Band Olympicks “Live Performance” event is based 100% on a ballot based system. The ballot is handed to every paying customer at the show. The Ballot contains the names of the bands participating on that show. Every customer will be responsible for filling out their ballot and placing it in the proper ballot box by the end of the night. Each community’s event will have from 6-10 “Live Performance” shows per location. From the preliminary shows, the top six ballot earning bands and the editor’s choice will move onto the final event. The finals event is again based on a ballot based system, determined 100% by the attendance the night of the finals, were every paying viewer receives a ballot to vote for their favorite band. Those votes are totaled and the top three bands Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and Bronze Medal split the cash and prizes.
YOUR MUSIC OLYMPICKS “Vocal Solo” Event
Singers from local bands will perform cover songs Karaoke style with The Dead Ringers, a local cover band. Each vocalist will perform two songs from the library provided. The vocalists will be judged on skill, creativity, audience response, stage presence, and courage, using a point system. The winners will be awarded points toward their “Live Performance” event vote totals - 3 points for Gold, 2 points for Silver, 1 point for Bronze. In addition the Gold winner will receive one free half page black and white ad in an upcoming edition of Your Music Magazine.
YOUR MUSIC OLYMPICKS “Guitar Solo” Event
Each guitarist will perform a 3-minute solo, answer 3 questions then play 3-minutes of rhythms to show diversity. This is a judged event and each guitarist will be judged individually with a points system. 3 judges will award up to 10 points in 4 categories-Skill, Creativity, Stage Presence, and Audience Response. The Gold winner will receive a half page black and white ad in Your Music Magazine for their band as well as 3 points toward their “Live Performance” vote totals. The silver winner will receive 2 points, Bronze gets 1. This could possibly help your band jockey for a better position at the Finals.
YOUR MUSIC OLYMPICKS “Bass Solo” Event & “Drum Solo” Event
At 8:30 the musicians draw numbers out of a hat to determine the night’s line up. The MC will introduce the 1st bass player who will perform a 2-minute bass solo after which he’ll be asked a few personal questions, ending with the bassist pulling a 3-minute jam with the drummer of his choice. Next, the MC intros the drummer for a 2-minute solo, asks a few questions, after which the drummer can showcase with the bassist of his choice for 3 minutes. The bass cabinet and amp will be provided. Players will be required to bring their own cords, effects, and bass. Drum kit will be provided. Drummers should bring their own snare and pedals.
