The San Jose YMO “Best Guitarist” Event will be held at The Downtown Brit on Friday August 15th starting at 8:00PM sharp. This is a “Solo Competition” or “Shred Off” with industry judges using a point system to determine the winners. Audience response will be part of the judging process along with skill, creativity, speed, stage presence, and (because you will be up there without your band) courage. 8-10 guitarists selected by yourmusicmagazine.com Internet polls will perform a 3-minute solo, answer 3 basic questions for the judges, then play 3 minutes of their favorite rhythms.  Each guitarist will play through one provided amp to ensure fairness and reduce set-up time.  The gold winner will receive a brand new Epiphone guitar w/ hard case!  The gold, silver, and bronze winners will receive points toward their “Live Performance “ votes. GOLD=3, SILVER=2, BRONZE=1.  The musicians that succeed in the “Best Guitarist” competiton can potentially add those points to the “Best Vocalist” event points and help improve their band’s time slot going into the September 19th Finals at The VooDoo Lounge.  Also scheduled to play on August 15th between guitarists- My First Murder and Interseed, for their “Live Performance” event.

The San Jose YMO “Best Vocalist” Event will be held at The Downtown Brit on Friday September 5th starting at 8:00 pm sharp.  Your Music Magazine has employed the ultimate cover band The Dead Ringers to play karaoke style for the vocalists. 8-10 local band vocalists, selected by yourmusicmagazine.com Internet polls, will perform 2 songs from the library provided. The singers will be judged AND there will be space on the ballot for fans in the audience to write in their favorite singer’s name.  This fan vote will count as a quarter of the total score.  Our music industry judges will be looking for inherent skill, creative style, stage presence, audience response, range, and courage when making their decision.  The gold, silver, and bronze winners will receive points toward their “Live Performance “ votes. GOLD=3, SILVER=2, BRONZE=1.  When you add these to the “Best Guitarist” event points bands can improve their time slot going into the September 19th Finals at The VooDoo Lounge.  Also scheduled to play on September 5th between vocalists- Perverse Recreation and Broken October, for their Live Performance” event.

SANTA CRUZ VOCALIST EVENT:
On Saturday August 23rd at The Brookdale Inn and Spa we are having our Santa Cruz Your Music Olympicks "Best Vocalist" event. The Dead Ringers will perform for your enjoyment, and then provide a library of songs for the Santa Cruz vocalists to choose from. The vocalists will be judged AND there will be space on the ballot for fans in the audience to write in a singer’s name.  This fan vote will count as a quarter of their score.  Our music industry judges will be looking for inherent skill, creative style, stage presence, etc., when making their decision on who is the Best Vocalist in our 2008 Santa Cruz YMO event.  This is the first time in Santa Cruz local music history that local singers will be alone in the spotlight, and all of our competing vocalists need you at the show to cheer them on!  So come out and help your favorite succeed in this groundbreaking individual competition!
