And Army Of Pit Soldiers Presents
Ok when Mike Lyon called me up and said hey Benji you ant to interview DevilDriver, I fell out my chair man. I'M like fuck yes dude, Dez Fafara , I have been a huge fan of for a long time, it as almost star strucking to do this interview. It was a short interview but it was straight to the point. I will be catching up with Dez at the sounds of the underground tour to do a follow up with him, but till then, here is what he had to say…..
Benji-Can you state you name and band name for the record?
Dez- Dez from Devil Driver
Benji How's it feel to be out on the road again?
Dez- Oh bad ass, I haven't stopped in like 10 years. so its like a non stop man. We are out with Machine head right now and after that we go out with Lamb of God and Clutch on the Sounds Of The Underground tour..
Benji What a sick ass line up on the Sounds Of The Underground Tour man, almost like s mini Oxzfest Tour., , a lot of different styles of metal on this tour, your thoughts please?
Dez-you know that is going to be a good time We know a lot of these bands, and you know we are one of the only Heavy Metal bands, and there is a lot of the metal core so there will be a weird audience, should be fun
Benji So how do think the new album come out , and as you would say is the sophomore jinx over, honesty I never notice anything like that I thought all the albums you did were sick as fuck, coal chamber and devil driver, but I have to say this new album you just did got me hooked from the first play in my CD player?
Dez- (Dez laughing in the background) Thank you brother, I tell you what I really stand behind it , and it seems everyone else is to, So I appreciate it, as far as that goes yea man we definitely beat the sophomore jinx , you know what I mean. As long as it keeps progressing and the band keeps getting better it will be a good time you know
Benji Tell me Dez what if any changes need to be done in the music industry?
Dez- Dear god, I can't even tell you, where do I begin. Downloading, that is killing every artist out there tight now, they need to figure out, they can send a man to the moon, but they can't keep some kid from steeling my art, you know I don't know what to do.
Benji Is the metal world living strong or dieing slow?
Dez- God man, I think its living strong, there's so many good bands out there right now, I mean so many geared projects to listen to, if you're into metal. I mean I hard some of the new Chimera the other night that was great. Look at Superjoint Ritual. There's a lot of great metal out there for people right now.
Benji Tell me the feeling you have deep inside f your soul when you are up on that stage playing in front of those fans, describe and relive the emotion the best way you can?
Dez- Its better than any drug, better than anything man. It's what I live for, If I got a stage and a microphone with me, that is good. I can sit at home for 4 or days and I'm tripping out. I got to go out on the road, I got rabbit in my blood, and its just never stop for me. You know I never considered being a happy person, but you know a stage and a microphone is happiness for me
Benji So let's talk more about this sick ass album, what was behind the name of the album The Fury of Our Makers Hand?
Dez- You know you got your own makers hand and I got my own makers hand, and you're living your daily fury n dim living my daily fury, so we are all living in the fury of our maker's hand. And my life in the last ten years has been a fucking hurricane storm a know I wanted something that would capture that in the title, and go alone with the lyrics
Benji What's your favorite song on the CD and why
Dez-Cant chose them man, there all little kids, I wish we could play the whole album one at a time It is very difficult for me to choose a certain song at this point
Benji: Well Dez that is it man but I would love come to your show at shoreline and further this interview and review your show and get some pictures for the magazine.
Dez-Ah dude! Come say hello, I always like to meet people that support us , for sure, I got a bottle of wine with your name on it
Benji- Its been a honor man I have seen Coal Chamber 17 times and Devil Driver 9 times, I like to travel with the bands sometimes. But I do miss seeing you guys play at the Masquerade in ATL GA,
Dez- Good God, we will defiantly have to have a glass of wine together
