| The Bad Luck Charms Self Titled CD Review | |||
| Written by Maxwell Barna | |||
| The Bad Luck Charms: Self Titled. By: Maxwell Barna The first track, “Break My Heart” starts off strong with a powerful guitar lead-in and follows through with a very ripping bass line. The chorus is simple, poppy, catchy, and had me singing along from the start. In retrospect, this was a very good start to a very good album. As I kept listening I liked this band more and more. My favorite songs in particular were “Happily Ever After” with its almost Bee-Bop-like chorus and “Untouchable” due to its strong, biting introduction and up-lifting group chorus. The raw guitar solo’s mesh well with the over-all “fuck you – let’s party” attitude that this band appears to convey. Martinez’s voice mixed in with the full-band choruses really helps complete the general feel of this band. While every song seems a bit formulaic, it never gets repetitive and remains very entertaining through and through. In fact, I liked it so much I listened to it twice. I see big things for these guys in the future and in my opinion, it goes without saying that these guys are the punch in the face that the current punk rock scene needs. Thanks for unleashing your “Rock ‘n’ Roll fun at all costs” attitude onto the world, guys – we sure could use it! Their new self-titled album is set to release on September 23rd courtesy of our friends over at I Scream Records. I heavily suggest you pick this one up. . |
